Where: We are venturing out into a new ocean! Come and join us in the Canary Islands (off the coast of Western Sahara). The Islands are a major tourist location for europeans year around, with numerous flights connecting from all over Europe. (Lots of charter operators, and even low-cost carriers such as Ryan Air, Norwegian, EasyJet, Thomson and Air Berlin fly there). Once we have a firm group we will fix the port of departure (either La Gomera or Tenerife).
What: Through other peoples generosity we have been offered the use of a two masted schooner, located in the Canary Islands this fall. S/y Soteria is a wide-hulled, two-masted, gaff-rigged schooner. She is a very heavy and stable ship, well over 60 tons and 72 feet long overall (hull 57 feet). The oak ship was originally built 1932 in Denmark for fishing but was later converted in Holland to pleasure sailing. We are limited by the life-raft capacity to a maximum of 12 people (with crew). Accommodation onboard is basic, but still very stylish pirates-class. Our old pirate mate, Cisco, who has since trained as a professional chef in Spain, is joining to make this a culinary experience worth remembering!
We have no set itinerary - no place where we "have to be" - so we are free to follow the winds for the most enjoyable course. The distance between the islands average 32 NM, which should give us no more than 5-6 of hours of sailing per day. Otherwise we will pretty much follow our well established concept of R&R, great dining, and non religious, spiritual discovery.
Cost: The price of 795€ covers everything onboard, (including food & drinks). We have raised the food budget considerably and will offer the highest standard of both spanish and international cuisine.
